To celebrate the 2024 Paralympic Games, we are holding a Paralympics Community Fun Day in partnership with Freedom Leisure at the end of August!
This is your chance to try accessible sports in these relaxed and friendly games. You can play sports that give people of all abilities a level playing field so that everyone can enjoy playing together. There is a competition element to the day, but it’s mainly about getting together and having lots of fun!
A huge thank you to our partner Freedom Leisure, whose fantastic support has enabled this event to go ahead.
How the event works
You can enter a team or as an individual. It’s a brilliant opportunity for families, sports teams, community groups and corporate team building, or a great day out for a group of friends.
If you enter as an individual, you can choose which team you would like to join and there will be a chance to try out the different sports informally before the competition begins at 1pm.
Attending doesn't mean you have to take part. You can also attend the event as part of the cheering squad! (only people participating in the games need to buy tickets, spectators and children can register for a free ticket).
The sports
This is an inclusive competition, so people of all abilities and ages are actively encouraged to take part. The sports are Boccia, Walking Football and Accessible Cycling. If you are not familiar with Boccia, you can see a video of it below. It's really fun and absolutely anyone can take part.
The games will see disabled and non-disabled people competing together in sports that give everyone an equal opportunity.
Learn from a pro!
We are excited to welcome rising Boccia star, Matt Berry to the event. Matt is the current Boccia BC3 English National Champion with a current World Ranking of 21 and hopes to compete in the 2028 Paralympics.
Matt, who has Duchenne muscular dystrophy will open the event with a motivational speech about his achievements and he will be on hand to offer his expert guidance through the Boccia taster session which runs in the morning ahead of the afternoon competition.
