We are pleased to announce that Kim Owens will be taking on the iconic 2020 Virgin Money London Marathon this spring to raise funds for LinkAble. Kim is no stranger to running but by her own admission this time its personal.
On her motivations to run for LinkAble she says,'Four years ago, I couldn’t run to the end of the road, I also had no idea that my son was about to be diagnosed with Autism. This April I will be running the London Marathon with the aim of raising funds for LinkAble, a charity that has supported my family and is close to all of our hearts.
Willem, (pictured on my left), is a happy and charismatic little boy but my husband Jamie and I still have, like any parent, concern for his future as he gets older. We worry about social exclusion, his mental wellbeing and how independent he might be in the years to come. Having a charity such as LinkAble in our area gives us and many other families in Woking and Surrey peace of mind, that there is somewhere children and adults like Willem can turn to when they need support.'
Not only will Kim be training hard for the marathon she will be organising a series of fundraising events between now and the start line as she aims to raise £3,000 for LinkAble.
Alison Keeley, LinkAble CEO says, 'Having recently met Kim I am so pleased that she is running for LinkAble. For a charity of our size getting a place in the marathon is always hard, demand always exceeds the number of places available. Having a runner who appreciates and understands the importance of our work is fantastic. We are proud to have Kim running and representing LinkAble, hopefully our supporters feel likewise and really get behind her'.
